Eganville Wildcats defeat Petawawa Blackhawks
Jaden Kohoko-Autio #4, Kachina Sackaney #5 and Madison Whiteduck #9, all from Pikwàkanagàn play hockey for the Eganville Wildcats. In April 2005 they completed their hockey season. After a gruelling three period game tied at 1-1, and two overtime periods, the Eganville Wildcats reigned victorious over the Petawawa Blackhawks. The two Peewee teams from the Ottawa Valley District Girls Hockey Association played at the Pembroke Memorial Centre on Saturday, April 9th.

Jaden and Kachina both are skillful in their position of Defence and do a great job defending their zone and ensuring the passes are dead on most times. Madison, although of a slighter build than some of her team-mates, has an advantage as her lightness allows her to be an agile and skilled left wing with dazzling stick handling capabilties.

There girls play a competitive game. The teams from Divisions 3 and 4, aged 9-12 years old, fought a long and tiresome battle in their last game of the season. Kaila Schauer scored the first goal for the Wildcats. After the Blackhawks tied up the game at 1-1 at the end of the second period, the struggle began.

No scores were made in the third period. To break the tie the girls played 4 on 4 for an extra ten minutes of overtime but no scores were made, then teams began a shoot out. Both teams scored at the same time on one shoot out but the game was no closer to being decided. Danielle Lanoix made the final overtime score and the Blackhawks were defeated 2-1. The Eganville Wildcats won first place in C Division, placing 5th in the House League.

The girls participated in three tournaments this season, April 1-3 in Kanata, and finally our team got some Hardware, a trophy for the "C Division Champs' of the Ottawa Valley Girls Hockey Association. Parents and Coaches are very proud of this dedicated team. They have had a great season and great fun!

Congratulations Jaden, Kachina and Madison, and all their teammates for a great game and season!! Congratulations also go out to their Coach Chris Laronde, Assistant Coach Pat Lanoix, and Trainers Connie Dick, Rick Dale, and Roger Whiteduck, as well as their Manager Linda Lanoix.
