Pikwàkanagàn has a new library (Nàbowàdjige-wigamig). Community members are invited to come and browse, pick up a book and escape to wonderful places this year. Hundreds of brand new books are available on numerous topics.

The library offers books and resources for all ages including a large selection of Native reading materials. Youth have their own section and plenty of adult books are available. Resources are also available including reference books and encyclopedia’s for school projects and research. Books are available on audio and VHS.

A special section is set up for young children including a tiny table and chairs for their little legs and large imaginations. The books are bright and the stories are full of magic. The children's centre has a separate computer to help the children with special phonics programs. Library workshops include Storytelling.

The library also boasts access to the internet. Originally in 1999, the computers were donated to the community through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Since then six new computers have been purchased by the First Nation. A CAP site is funded through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism as grants become available.

Librarian, Estelle Zohr will help you locate what you’re searching for and will check out your new loaned books from the library. The library uses an electronic system called the Winnebago Spectrum to catalogue and record books and check outs.

Please take good care of your library books. Keep them dry and clean and don’t tear the pages. Don’t turn down the corners of pages to mark your spot. Estelle has colourful bookmarks to mark your place in the book. And remember to return your books on time so others can enjoy the book as well. Library loans are for a two week period. Overdue books will be fined.
