Deer Harvest

Like moose, Pikwàkanagàn members harvest deer for food not for sport. There are rules and regulations that all harvesters must abide by for both safety and conservation of deer numbers.

Pikwàkanagàn continued to use the Harvest Management Plan for the 2004-2005 Moose and Deer Harvest in and around Algonquin Provincial Park. As always, Conservation and Safety remained the highest priority.

Season Dates
Inside Algonquin Park:
Harvesting inside Algonquin Park for deer begins in October. Deer harvesting inside Algonquin Park remains open until January.

Outside Algonquin Park:
Deer harvesting outside Algonquin Park begins in September and will close January.

Monitors
Harvesters are required to register at the monitoring station upon entering Algonquin Park. All hunters who harvest a deer must stop to provide details of his/her harvest to the Pikwàkanagàn Enforcement Officer and Pikwàkanagàn Field Monitors as they leave the park with the animal carcass. In the event that you are unable to register your harvest with our Enforcement Officer or Monitors, it is your responsibility to report the harvest within 24 hours to the Algonquin Harvest Department.

For further information call, the Algonquin Harvest Department at 613-625-2800.
